Herbs have many uses and one may choose to grow herbs for their culinary purposes, medicinal purposes, decorative purposes or aromatic purposes. Most people choose to grow herbs for either culinary or medicinal uses and with more and more people becoming aware of the dangers of poisoning their systems with vegetables and herbs that have been treated with chemical fertilizers, many people grow their own herbs to ensure that they have access to pure organic herbs to consume.

The first thing to do when you want to grow your herb garden is to decide on the size and location of the garden. Drainage is important as excessive moisture will make your herbs lose their flavor so if the place that you have selected for your garden does not have an adequate drainage system, it will mean that much more work for you as you will have to put in manual labor to tackle to problem. Next, your garden must be located in a place where the herbs that you plant will have access to at least a half-day's sunshine every day. Soil, is the next main concern and ideally you want fertile soil in your plants or pots. If your garden has a variety of flowers and plants growing in it, it will probably have good organic soil content.

Growing any kind of plant requires ample fertilization and to grow organic plants you need to use a natural fertilizer like compost or manure. These fertilizers can also be added into the water you use to water your plants, but you must be careful to ensure that you neither over-fertilize nor over-water your herbs. Doing too much or too little of either can result in poor growth or alter the taste and flavor of the herbs negatively. You should also work out a good herb garden layout to prevent confusion as well as help your plants to grow well. It is preferable to mix up varieties of plants in your garden area to prevent or at least tackle pest-infestation but you should be careful to plan annual plants together, biannual plants in a separate area and perennial plants in a third area. That way, you will find the watering and fertilizing process limited to specific areas in specific seasons.

Whether you want to grow herbs or simply to consume them, you can take advantage of the economics of buying herbs in bulk quantities. Bulk dried herbs whether they are bulk Ayurvedic herbs or medicinal herbs or herbs for other uses can be purchased directly from your local bulk herbs supplier or bulk herbs retailers but to ensure that you are getting quality bulk herbs and botanicals always rely on the opinion of the vendor's existing clientele. The best way to choose a herb vendor is to ask around among your friends and neighbors for a vendor of good repute. If you are planning to grow your own herb garden, try and find vendors that will offer you their expert advice and opinions when you need it.
